Rats are believed to have killed a four-month old baby after biting her to death when her young mum went to a party and left her at home.
Part of the child’s face was chewed off by the animals at the house in Acolam, near Mexico City.
Her mum, 18-year-old Lizbeth Jeronima Fuentes Munguia, alerted her neighbours after she returned home in the early hours of Tuesday morning and found the baby lying lifeless in her cot.
Paramedics rushed to the house but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Munguia was arrested and taken away by police to give a statement.
Local reports said the baby’s unnamed grandmother, who had been left in charge of the youngster, was also held.
Neighbours said the single mum had left the house two hours earlier so she could go to a party in nearby Otumb
