The celebrity couples who put on the happiest fronts are often the ones with the shadiest stuff going on behind closed doors. Why? A lot of couples that face problems go out of their way to put on a united front to fight split rumors when they start…only to have them proven true later on. Here are a few couples who may have a lot to hide beneath their sunny smiles and shiny wedding rings. Here they are;
KIM KARDASHIAN AND KANYE WEST
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are each obsessed with themselves, but individually and as a couple, but that doesn’t mean they’re enamored with one another. In fact, Yeezy’s controlling nature pretty much transformed Kardashian from a fun-loving brunette bombshell who dressed for her shape into a wordless, occasionally (and tragically) blonde mannequin-like shell of her former self, even tossing out her entire wardrobe on her own show to fit his own standards. Now that she’s officially a baby mama twice over, Kardashian is reportedly terrified that West is done with her. InTouch reports that Kardashian caught West texting his exes, and an insider dished to Radar Online, “Kim is totally stressing out that with a perfect daughter and now a son that Kanye isn’t going to need her anymore.” The source added that Kardashian’s weight gain from her pregnancy may pose a problem for West, because “looking really hot is important to Kanye.”
JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE AND JESSICA BIEL
Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel split so many times before they finally tied the knot that it’s pretty much a miracle they even made it down the aisle. Timberlake was rumored to have a severely wandering eye for years before they got married (remember those Olivia Munn and Mila Kunis cheating rumors?). Add to that the stress of a new baby and how much better his career is than the only occasionally-employed Biel, and that has the makings of a mess.
BEYONCE AND JAY Z
Everyone thought Jay Z and Beyonce were a rock solid couple until the infamous elevator incident after the 2014 Met Gala, where Bey’s kid sister Solange Knowles attacked Hov. After that, rumors abounded that the pair were on their way to a divorce: Page Six reported that Beyonce was apartment hunting for her own pad, while multiple sources accused Jay Z of stepping out on Queen Bey with everyone from Rihanna to Rachel Roy to Rita Ora. They’ve kissed and made up publicly since then, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Maybe he’s got a thing for R-named ladies.
JOHNNY DEPP AND AMBER HEARD
Sources told E! Online in December 2014 that Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were pretty much always on the rocks, both before and after their February 2015 wedding. The troubles worsened in November 2014 when Depp was slurring and struggling to stay upright while presenting an award at the Hollywood Film Awards, and sources told Star that Depp was suffocating the bisexual beauty with his controlling behavior. “She isn’t sure how much more she can take,” the insider said. “She’s been locked away in his apartment, looking after his kids, but his smothering behavior is driving her crazy.” In April, an insider revealed to Page Six that Heard’s close friendship with photographer Tillett Wright was also throwing a wrench in their marriage. Though the couple insists everything is just peachy now, you can bet there’s some rancid stuff bubbling just under the surface.
JOSHUA JACKSON AND DIANE KRUGER
They’re not married, but after almost a decade together, they may as well be: Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger swear up and down that they’re happy as clams together. The problem is, multiple witnesses saw Kruger happy as a clam with The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus in a bar, according to the New York Daily News and Radar Online. Kruger’s camp never actually denied that the hookup happened, so even if they’re smiling for the cameras and putting on a show for their publicists, it doesn’t mean the relationship is smooth sailing behind closed doors.
CHANNING TATUM AND JENNA DEWAN-TATUM
Channing Tatum is one of the hottest tickets in Hollywood right now, in part because of his star turns in Magic Mike (2012) and Magic Mike XXL (2015)…you know, those movies where he plays a stripper grinding on all sorts of girls? Meanwhile, Jenna Dewan-Tatum has pretty much been relegated to a housewife role because all of her TV series keep getting cancelled. Disparities in success are damaging to the ego, and damage to one’s ego can lead to damage in one’s relationship.
CHRIS PRATT AND ANNA FARIS
Chris Pratt makes it crystal clear that he adores wife Anna Faris. Though the couple often appear loved up on the red carpet and social media (especially with their adorable son, Jack), it doesn’t mean their marriage is without its faults. When a tabloid reported that Faris feared Pratt would cheat on her with his Passengers (2016) co-star Jennifer Lawrence, Faris freaked out. “I had always kind of believed that part of the rumors of celebrity couples were sort of true because they had never been part of my life,” Faris told Us Weekly. “I was like, ‘Oh, maybe there’s a kernel of truth to that.’ It’s been a little devastating because for us, it’s like, ‘What the heck?’ This has been blindsiding to us. We have an incredible relationship. It has been weirdly stinging.” If there really wasn’t any truth to the tales, wouldn’t they just laugh everything off?
JOEL MADDEN AND NICOLE RICHIE
When moving vans were spotted outside Nicole Richie and Joel Madden’s home, the world thought they were divorcing—but they were reportedly just renovating. Still, that doesn’t mean it’s all sunshine and rainbows for the couple, especially when Madden is taping The Voice Australia. “When he’s here, he checks out on his life in the U.S.,” a source told Star. “Joel prefers to be away because he can avoid Nicole much more easily there…He can’t stand to be at home with her because she constantly picks at him. If she’s not accusing him of cheating, she’s complaining about the way he parents the kids or what he eats or what he wears…It’s just never-ending.”
TOM BRADY AND GISELE BUNDCHEN
Deflategate wasn’t Tom Brady’s only big problem in 2015, because his marriage was also in trouble. A source told Us Weekly that when the controversy came to light, “Tom’s become very irritable and has started acting out on [Gisele].” Another insider told People, “There have been a lot of stresses in their marriage in the last year, especially during football season…Tom is singularly focused on his career and sometimes Gisele feels left out. There have been arguments.” The source noted that while Brady can be “nasty and cold” when stressed over his professional issues, Bundchen dealt by “ramping up the social media activity because her marriage is breaking down.” Or deflating, as it were.
