HBO Announces 'Game Of Thrones' Season 6 Premiere And Plans For Future Seasons

We'll find out just how dead Jon Snow really is come April 24. HBO announced the "Game of Thrones" Season 6 premiere date at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Thursday.
HBO programming president Michael Lombardo also reportedly said the network is in talks for a seventh and eighth season of the show, whose most recent finale drew series-high ratings last June and scored Emmys for both its writing and directing. Just how much the show will outpace George R.R. Martin's books now that he won't finish the next Song of Ice and Fire installment in time for Season 6 is, of course, unclear. What is clear is that recent contract negotiations will make the principal "Game of Thones" cast members -- Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, Emilia Clarke and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau -- some of the highest-paid actors on television by Season 7.
