Charlie Sheen has warned of seeking alternative medcine to treat HIV after revealing that a Mexico-based doctor injected Sheen's blood into himself to prove the actor was cured.
The Two And A Half Men star said he had stopped taking retrovirals so he could undergo alternative treatment with the "miracle" doctor.
But he was shocked to discover the doctor was so convinced he had cured Sheen that he injected himself with his blood to prove it.
The virus has since reemerged in his blood, Sheen said.
He called the bizarre incident “inappropriate and completely mind-blowing," during an interview on the Dr Oz Show in the US.
"I'm a little off my game because right before I walked out here, I got some results I was disappointed about," he said. "I had been non-detectable, non-detectable and checking the blood every week and then found out the numbers are back up."
Sheen said he would resume taking traditional antiretroviral HIV medication, adding that he would not "recommend" any other HIV-positive person do as he did.
"I'm not recommending that anybody else do this," he said. "I'm presenting myself as some kind of a guinea pig."
The actor, who on November 17 confirmed the long-rumoured news that he was carrying the virus, said he sought the advice of the doctor, who travelled to California to assist, in a bid to find a cure.
Sheen told Dr Oz, an American television doctor, that he had spent time with Samir Chachoua, who appears to be an Australian usually based in the Baja Peninsula area of Mexico. Dr Chachoua has fan sites claiming that he can "cure the incurable", promising to conquer Aids, cancer and MS.
