Single mother: Nicolla Rushton, seen in this tribute photo posted online by her brother, was found by a PCSO at her home and later pronounced dead

A single mother was found dead at home after her toddler daughter led an off-duty police officer to her body.

Nicolla Rushton, 30, was found by a police community support officer and his wife after they spotted three-year-old Phoebe wandering the streets alone and followed her back to her home in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
When he stepped out of his car to speak to Phoebe she told him that she was making her own way to her nursery - 350 yards from home at Little Strawberries - because she 'could not wake mummy up'.
The couple followed Phoebe home, where they found Miss Rushton. The officer stayed with the girl until emergency services arrived, and Miss Rushton was pronounced dead at the scene.
The heartbreaking details surrounding the discovery emerged today as it was revealed police were not treating the death of the full-time mother at the terraced property as suspicious.
Miss Rushton's brother Anthony Rushton shared a picture of his sister on took to Facebook which was met with condolence messages.
Chief Inspector Steve Maskrey, from Staffordshire Police, has since praised the 'brilliant' work of the officer and said his actions showed police 'are never off duty.'
'The officer and his wife took the time to look after the little girl and stay with her until emergency services arrived,' he said. 'Sadly nothing could be done to help the woman. Picture of he little girls home below;
